With the increasing level of change to employment legislation, keeping you and your most valuable asset - your people - up to date has never been more important.

Coupled with rising expectations and demands on staff, it can become a challenge to develop knowledge, understanding and confidence in critical areas of the law.

Cobbetts HR Forum present the ideal opportunity to keep you one step ahead of the latest developments. The hour long, interactive workshop will provide a comprehensive update on key changes in 2010 and give you the best possible guidance and support to plan for the future.

Our HR experts will highlight the key issues and facilitate a discussion, enabling you to share your concerns and experiences whilst learning from others.

The Equality Bill - The impact on your business

The Equality Bill has two main purposes: to harmonise and to strengthen discrimination law. The changes are expected to come into force in October 2010 and will impact on employment practices across the board.

Key elements to the Bill currently include:

• Secrecy pay clauses in contracts of employment will be limited;
• Employers with over 250 staff may be forced to publish information about differences in pay between the sexes;
• Positive action to be allowed during recruitment when faced with two equal candidates;
• Discrimination by association to be made unlawful by statute;
• Harmonising the definition of indirect discrimination across all strands of discrimination;
• Dual discrimination claims will be permitted;
• Comparator test for disability-related discrimination will be altered.

This session will deal with the practical implications of the Bill on your  business and what employment policies, contracts and practices need to be amended.
