The charities team includes a specialist unit which concentrates on advising charities in connection with sales and purchases, landlord and tenant and property management issues.

Matters on which we advise include:

• the provisions contained in Charities Act 1993 relating to disposals and mortgages of charity property;
• land development and related issues including the potential tax trap for charities when selling land for development;

Recent matters include:

• Advising on complex property and charity law issues arising on a proposed sale of land by a charity for development purposes, including a possible application to the Lands Tribunal.
• Dealing with the voluntary registration of title for a religious charity, involving producing evidence of title to the Land Registry of some 300 plots of land.
